In the course of a case study a maintenance concept for a 25 km long highway section comprising 102 structures (bridge, tunnels, gantries, retaining walls, noise barriers) on the Austrian highway S6 was elaborated. The intention was to give a long-term outlook (>30 years) regarding maintenance measures (heavy and routine maintenance) during the upcoming service life of the analysed structures. Based on the available geometrical information, inspection reports and traffic data maintenance instructions were elaborated in order to ensure the demanded structural service life and operability. Besides cost optimization the main focus was on the minimization of traffic impediment. The case study includes different budget scenarios given by the client over a period of 30 years.
