Real expertise, as required in structural dynamics, is characterized
by a combination of complexity and a short period of validity. With
the development of VCDECIS the Vienna Consulting Engineers are willing
to realize professional knowledge management based on the company's
knowledge in Ambient Vibration Monitoring. Therefore the BRIMOS®
technology and experience of former BRIMOS® projects are integrated
to the system. This Decision Support System should provide all necessary
tools and knowledge for research and decision making within the
scientific procedure of vibration based condition assessment on
structures.
The term Decision Support System (DSS), Knowledge Management System
(KMS) and Knowledgebase (KB) designate an approach to improving
organizational outcomes and organizational learning by introducing
a range of specific processes and practices for identifying and
capturing knowledge, know-how, expertise and other intellectual
capital and for making such knowledge assets available for transfer
and reuse across the organization.
- A key distinction made by Knowledge Management practitioners
is between tacit and explicit knowledge:
tacit knowledge requires systems which can access knowledge resources
to learn best practice, enables the communication between people
and indicates context between knowledge and its sources;
- explicit knowledge which can be codified in documents requires
a person-to-document-approach such as Document Management Systems
and Databases combined with search tools.
