The 12 m high equestrian statue of Archduke Karl is located on Heldenplatz in Vienna. This monument is one of the few equestrian statues worldwide only standing on the two hind legs of the horse. Serviceability and condition of the statue could hardly be assessed by a visual inspection from the outside only. The measurements had the objective to provide a significant spectrum and to document its changes over the time.
