Krosno-Tunnel

VCE Project of the Month 09/2026. Vibration-Related Analysis in the Krosno Tunnel. In Krosno, Poland, VCE analyzed airborne noise, structure-borne noise, and vibrations along the railway line.

The single-track Krosno Tunnel in Poland (LK 108) is approx. 1.5 km long and was erected in open construction method (cut-and-cover), mostly without covering. Originally tendered as ballasted track, the PORR slab track system can be applied due to local certification.

The VCE departments CC Acoustics, Dynamics, Building Physics, Measurement & Instrumentation and CC Geotechnics & Natural Hazards performed a comprehensive vibration prediction for the existing and planned railway operation. Airborne noise, structure-borne noise and vibrations at vulnerable impact locations in the immediate vicinity of the railway track were analysed.

The calculation models are based on train emission data collected by the VCE measurement team near Krakow at the PORR slab track system, dispersion modelling in the geotechnical software program PLAXIS, the selection of vulnerable impact locations and the comparison with the prevailing threshold values. As no threshold values were exceeded, no abatement measures were required.
